Rant: Stupid fucking wingnuts

Apologies for the lame-ass title, but I'm pissed.

Why does this not surprise me?

A Pentagon investigation into complaints that evangelical Christians at the Air Force Academy have bullied Jews and cadets of other faiths found no overt discrimination, but "certainly insensitivity," military officials said Wednesday.

Jewish cadets are called Christ-killers and told the Holocaust is revenge for Jesus' death, and that's not considered discrimination? Not to mention the proseletyzing.

My God, what is happening to us? Between shit like this and faith-based initiatives and fucking ugly concrete slabs in courthouses and people kvetching about God being removed from public life, we are...oh fuck, I don't know what we are. I know too many of us are ignorant, fearful, narrow-minded bigots. I know I'm weary. I mean, goddammit, dismissing this kind of hate speech as mere insensitivity is way beyond insensitive. Why must we continue to institutionalize racism and bigotry?

And the next person who whines about Christian persecution is going to get a fucking earful from me. Yes, real persecution exists, but not in this country - not for Christians. You fundies have fucking everything, but that still isn't enough. You want to take over public television, you want to impose your moronic "values" on everyone, you want to protect the sanctity of marriage -- all the while asserting your dominion over animals.

Finally, and this is a minor point, you have bad taste. You suck. Especially you abstinence-only types. I hear you suck a lot.

I don't get it. It's more obvious than ever that the only kind of 'religious persecution' that the Fundamentalist Right (they don't deserve the name of 'Christian') cares about is their own. Outright anti-Semitism is not a problem. The extreme lack of logic and fairness that these people demonstrate every time they open their mouths is just staggering.

And yet they still don't understand that the separation of church and state is what protects their disgusting, hate-filled distortion and perversion of a beautiful religion.

That's an excellent point about separation of church and state. They have the Constitutional right to be Pharisees and spread their hateful message. We have the right to counter their bullshit with logic, reason and mockery.

We need a new name for these hypocrites, too. Anti-Christians? The Unchristians? Life-hating monsters? I think Wanda said something in one of her posts or comments about the Fristian right. That'll work. Then we can all join forces and protest the Fristing of America.

Have mercy, I thought I was the only person on the planet who hated Kincade.
Frankly I don't know what we're going to do about the persecution that's going on. The persecution of non-christians that is. Somewhere there has to be a law against this. Doesn't there?

Badly, I'm sure.

Wanda,

You are definitely not alone! Thomas Kinkade was a running joke in my office about a year ago. I work with graphic designers, many of whom have fine arts backgrounds, and they of course find Kinkade's work wretched. One guy in particular loathed him, so naturally I would send him e-mails with links to Kinkade sites and print out pictures of cute country cottages that I would leave on his desk. That reminds me, I think my officemate is due for a little Kinkadey treat.

I read the best description of this guy ever on someone's blog: Thomas Kinkade, Painter of Shite. Anyway, you can probably tell I'm not a fan,

Rob, LOL, although I'm going to try not to think about that too much. Ugh!

That's best, Crabby. Nothing is more unthinkable than......no, it's too unthinkable. ;)

He's repugnant...I refer to him in an article I wrote about being a musician, which wanders off into a discussion of art - he's my prime example of non-art. If Van Gogh is on the Art end of the spectrum, Thomas Kinkadeā„¢ is on the opposite end.

They do suck. Happens in the confession booth all the time. We've all seen it in the news.

Hypocrisy and Fristians go hand in hand. I call it Hypofristianity. Seems to catch all in the description.

You know how they say history repeats itself? I've got money that says the Fristians will plan and execute the next round of the Crusades. But this time it will be against those who believe in the religion of Christianity itself, who despise and rail against the hypofristian right. Wait for it - it's on it's way, I'm sure.

[some deletion there but this time I have the right address attached in the re-post.] :-)

BTW: this is unrelated, but a nice contrast of the right nonetheless. Think you'll appreciate it.

Comes from The Cunning Realist (great blog btw):
---

Conservatives saw the savagery of 9/11 in the attacks and prepared for war; liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers. Let me just put this in fairly simple terms: Al Jazeera now broadcasts the words of Senator Durbin to the Mideast, certainly putting our troops in greater danger. No more needs to be said about the motives of liberals.

-Karl Rove 6/22/05

Naturally, the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.

-Hermann Goering 4/18/46, when the gig was up.

And in case there were any doubts, I do have the balls to say it:

You could mix and match those statements and not know any switch had been made.

Yikes.

Hi Crabbi. I just stopped by to say hi, and to let you know I'm still reading. Even though I rarely comment right now, I am out here in the blogosphere, nodding my head, gritting my teeth, and laughing to keep from crying. Great stuff, as always, here on Curmudgeonly.

Alicia, What a wonderful article! I can't even believe people say "Get a real job!" What could be more real and more meaningful than creating art and bringing joy to your listeners. Effing philistines.

Rob, I imagine it's quite easy for most of us not to think of such things. I keep saying that the fundies are the biggest pervs of all...

G, Thanks for the link - I'll check out that blog. I'm both discouraged and hopeful. I feel that Americans may be about to wake up from a looong nap and open their eyes to reality. (Morning, Sunshine, rise and shine and look at the carnage.)

I, too, have the balls to make these comparisons. We are getting dangerously close to facism. I was listening to The Majority Report the other day, and Sam Seder was reading descriptions of torture that occured at Gitmo, Russian gulags and in Nazi Germany. He asked this yahoo caller to match them up and damned if the guy wasn't wrong. I mean, why do we even compare? Torture is torture and it debases any country that condones it.

Hey L! I know how busy you are, with your book and your move, so I'm glad you're still able to visit. Will your book be available online? I want to read it. And I really can't wait to read "We've Moved to Canada! Yay!" (or whatever you will call it :) )

I know what you mean about the crying. Canada is sounding better all the time. I'm not ready to make such a big move, but who knows? Vancouver is only a two hour plane ride away.

"Especially you abstinence-only types. I hear you suck a lot."

I've heard the same.
I wonder if all these parents, teachers, and ministers who are so intent on teaching/forcing the 'abstinence-only' policy, have any idea that their sons and daughters are resorting to anal sex as a means of preserving their virginity? As the mother of young adults, I listen to what kids are saying and its not pretty. Even worse is they are afraid to buy condoms out of fear someone will tell their parents, so they're having unprotected anal and oral sex. The potential for disaster is overwhelming. Don't these people realize they are forcing their children into lives of fear and deceit?
I can't help but wonder if they even care. Or is it really only important that kids not have intercourse, thereby reducing the chances of an unwanted pregnancy.
Mind you I'm not saying abstinence shouldn't be encouraged, just that it shouldn't be forced. And that there should be open and honest discussions about protection, for when the time comes they need it.

this is another example of how the right have it so wrong. i don't understand how those who call themselves 'christians' are anything but... whatever happened to the golden rule, or turn the other cheek, or live and let live. you know they are trying to evangelize everything, every aspect of our lives. this pre-post mortem for the fossil rev graham just goes to show how deep it is getting with the media.
they are bowing to the powerful right so fast...
well, i need to go watch the yankees crumble to the mets, life goes on...

You know what I'd like to see? Matter-of-fact sex ed presented to kids, withour moralizing, kids not having to feel ashamed of their choices, whether they are sexually active or abstinent, and adults getting their priorities straight.

I can't help but wonder if they even care. Wanda, I think most of these parents do care, but they're in such denial that they believe not talking about sex means it isn't happening. As for the ones who really don't care, well, I suspect that some of their daughters have abortions, paid for by mom and dad. Being "pro-life" is way easier in theory than in practice.

Mind you I'm not saying abstinence shouldn't be encouraged, just that it shouldn't be forced.
I agree - abstinence can be presented as one option, because a lot of high schoolers aren't emotionally ready for sex. And what about those parents who don't want to tell their kids to wait for marriage? Abstinence-only programs take that right away form them. What kind of family values are those?

this pre-post mortem for the fossil rev graham
You know, anyone who goes on "crusades" is obviously clueless. He's also known for anti-Semitic remarks he made to Nixon. I'm not crazy about his kids, either.
